Giants Trade Odell Beckham Jr To The Browns.

In a blockbuster trade on March 12th, the Giants traded their star wide receiver to the Browns. The details of the trade were the Giants got a 2019 first round pick(No. 17 overall), a third round pick from the browns this year and safety Jabrill Peppers. Beckham has been the star of the Giants for five seasons. He was selected 12th in the 2014 NFL draft. He racked up great numbers while playing in New York. He had 5,476 yards and 44 touchdowns on 390 catches.

Now most Giants fans are mad that Gettleman traded Odell after he said we were not going too. I’m not happy with the trade but I understand it. The Giants are going through a complete rebuild. With the trade the Giants now have 2 first round draft picks in the 2019 draft. They could trade one of those picks or use both. I belive that they should use both picks and not trade one or both. Thier whole plan for the draft changed when they traded Odell. For the 6th pick the Giants should use it on a QB( Haskins or Murray). For the 17th pick it should be defense or a wide receiver to fill the void left by Beckham. For reviver the best options would be D.K. Metcalf if he is still available or Parris Campbell. Defense there are a lot of options considering this is a defense focused draft. There are some good free agents left that they could sign. All that said , trading Odell was not the best decision but some people could see why.

What Teams Need Landon Collins The Most?

The New York Giants safety was notified March 5th that he would not be franchised tagged and thus making him a free agent. Now that move was surprising to mostly everybody in and around the league. In my opinion it was dumb move from the Giants. They are letting go a 3x Pro Bowl and 1x All Pro safety. Giants also had a first round draft pick in a trade with Collins in it and they didn’t take it. Now that he’s a free agent, some teams are needing a new safety. The teams that make the most sense for Landon would be the Colts, Chiefs and Redskins.

The Colts have around $100 million in cap space right now. That would cover the cost of Collins and others. Adding Collins to that defense would become on another level. I believe the Colts would have a shot a deep post season run if they add Collins. The Colts seem like the best fit at the moment. Chiefs don’t have a lot of space when you talk about cap space. They could make it work though by trading or cutting some of their pass rushers. Pair Landon Collins with Eric Berry and you have an unstoppable safety combo. Now the Redskins could really use Landon Collins. They cut D.J. Swearinger and Ha Ha Clinton Dix has not played up to what they expected him too. Their cap space isn’t the worst and they really need help at that position. Unless the Colts make a ridiculous offer for Collins, the Redskins have a good chance of getting him.

Winners From The 2019 NFL Combine.

The Combine allows players to show off their skills and put on a show for scouts and GM’s. There are both winners and losers in the combine. I won’t be talking about the losers in this article. With that out-of-the-way, the winners in my view are D.K Metcalf, Dwayne Haskins, Quinnen Williams and Noah Fant.

All four of these players improved or solidified their spot as a first round draft pick. First off is D.K. Metcalf, WR, Ole Miss. Metcalf is just an absolute monster. He has the perfect combine of strength, height and speed. He is listed at 6’3″ – 228 pounds and ran a 4.33-second 40-yard dash. That’s insane but he also benched 27 reps and had a 40.5 inch vertical. His draft stock drastically went up during and after the combine. Dwayne Haskins showed off his throwing skills during the passing drills. His 40-yard dash time was a measly 5.04-seconds but that won’t have any affect on his draft position because he is a pure pocket passing QB. If anything, that 40 yard time only solidified that fact.

Quinnen Williams was in the conversation for the number one overall selection before the combine. Now with his stellar performance he has a real shot at being picked 1-3. He had an incredible 40-yard dash time for a DT weighing over 300 pounds. His time was 4.83 seconds. His 10 yard split being at 1.69 seconds was more impressive in my opinion. He has a great chance to be the first defensive player taken in the draft. Now last but not least was Noah Fant. Iowa always produces great TE’s and Noah is no exception. He had the best performance of all the TE’s at the combine. He wasn’t considered first round material before the combine. Now I think he is worthy of a first round draft pick.

Potential Landing Spots for Free Agent Earl Thomas.

There have been little to no negotiations between the Seahawks and Thomas that we know of. Now I belive he has become a distraction in Seattle and will be on a different team for the start of the 2019 season. Earl Thomas was a part of the decimated Legion of Boom in Seattle. He is one of the last ones left from that stud defense a few years back. Earl is a veteran and a leader. Some teams like the Cowboys, Buccaneers, and Chargers could use a guy like him on their roster.

The Cowboys secondary is young and Thomas is a perfect fit to help improve their great defense and mentor those young players. He has Pro Bowl talent and can create turnovers. This would help that already great defense. Thomas has also had a previous relationship with the Cowboys defensive backs coach, Kris Richard. So in essence, Earl Thomas to the Cowboys seems like the best option at this time. The Chargers defense is already one of the best in the league. With the addition of Earl Thomas, the team would get even better. Pair him with Derwin James and you have one of the best safety combos in the league. His leadership skills would boost the overall confidence of the defense. The last team I have in consideration for Thomas would be the Bucs. The Bucs completely redid the defense after 2017 and Earl Thomas could be the final piece in that puzzle. Adding Thomas would give them a ballhawk in the middle of the field and help take away some deep shots. The entire defense would benefit from this elite safety.

3 Players To Watch At The Combine.

The combine is a great way for players to prove themselves. Players can raise their draft stock if they perform well at the combine. Some players could really use the help of a good combine performance. 4 potential star players to watch at the combine would be Josh Allen, Kyler Murray, Dwayne Haskins . All of these players are expected to be drafted in the top 10 in the 2019 NFL draft.

Josh Allen could help solidify his spot as a top 3 draft pick if he has a stellar combine performance. He is No.9 on the SEC’s all time sack list with 31.5 sacks over his 4 year career at Kentucky. I believe Allen will be drafted in at least the top 5. Now Kyler Murray is interesting. He can run and throw very well but he is short compared to normal NFL QB’s. Just because he’s short doesn’t mean he can’t have success. Drew Brees and Russell Wilson are prime examples of short QB’s having success in the NFL. Murray is not going to throw at the combine. I think this is a bad move because you want scouts and GM’s to see all of your abilities and not just a couple. Still with all that being said, if he as a great outing at the combine he could surpass Dwayne Haskins as the first QB off he board. Dwayne Haskins only played one year at Ohio State. Grated he had Heisman caliber season, a strong combine performance could help his draft stock go up and solidify him as the number 1 QB in the draft. He is an NFL size QB and has the ability to be a franchise quarterback in the future( for the NY Giants I hope).

The Cardinals Should Draft Nick Bosa

With the Arizona Cardinals having he number one pick in the upcoming draft, the team has a very important decision to make. Who should they take at number one overall? Now they could possibly trade their pick for someone. There is a good chance of that but I don’t see it happening. There have been rumors that they would trade Josh Rosen and then go out and draft Kyler Murray at number one. For me, I don’t see a reason to do this. Rosen is good player who needs help around him and a little more developing. So Murray to the Cards is not happening.

Going with the fact the Cards don’t trade away their pick, they should draft Nick Bosa. Bosa is considered by some to be the best player overall going into the 2019 draft. His chances of going number one are very good. He played two full years and some of 2018(due to injury) at Ohio State. Watching Nick play defensive end, you could see some flashes of his older brother Joey. Joey Bosa was drafted 3rd overall by the Chargers in 2016. I believe that Nick will be better than Joey and Joey is an amazing player.

The Cardinals ranked 20th last year in total defense. Now it’s that’s not bad but it’s not great either. They could draft Nick Bosa to pair up with Chandler Jones. Jones had 13 sacks and three forced fumbles. That combo could be deadly for opposing teams offensive lines. To wrap things up, the Cardinals should not trade Rosen and draft Murray. Nick Bosa is a good fit for the Cardinals.

Nick Foles Has 3 Potential Landing Spots.

Nick Foles is probably going to be a free agent this offseason. The Eagles would need to franchise tag or transition tag on him in order to keep him on the roster. With Carson Wentz still as their starter, paring ways with Foles is probably their only option. His would make him a free agent. Foles was the Super Bowl MVP in the Eagles only Super Bowl win ever in 2017. The three teams that Foles could land on are the Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins and Washington Redskins.

Now the Jaguars need to move on from Blake Bortles if they want to win anything in the future. Now the Jags are not in good shape when it comes to cap room. They are currently negative $4.3 million. They could cut some players and make it work though. Foles would be a good fit and if they draft a rookie quarterback in the draft, he could sit behind Foles and learn for a year. The Dolphins are interesting. They probably won’t trade for Foles because they will draft a quarterback and have him sit behind Tannehill for a year. Their cap space is ok at around $12 million. The Redskins are going to need a QB next year because of the gruesome leg injury that their starting QB Alex Smith suffered. They have about $20 million in cap space, so they could make a run for Foles for the 2019 season. All three of these teams have a chance or a need to get Foles.

Where Will Demarcus Lawrence Land?

Embed from Getty Images

Demarcus Lawrence is my number one free agent this year. I believe that a lot of people would agree with me on that. Lawrence numbers dropped last year when he only had 10.5 sacks. After his breakout year in 2017, he has made of name for himself and is a top five defensive end in the league.

The Dallas Cowboys want to extend Lawrence on a long-term contract. I believe he will stay with the Cowboys but if he doesn’t there are plenty of teams he would fit well on. Those teams would include the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, 49ers, Colts and Titans. The Colts had an exceptional season last year. They defied all the odds making the playoffs after being projected to be near last in the league. The defense needs help though. Only a combined 38 sacks through the whole season. Lawrence would provide an elite pass rusher to the colts defensive line. Right now the Colts don’t have an elite pass rusher. Now the Titans defense is great on all levels besides the defensive line. They only had 39 sacks last season. If you add Lawrence with Jurrell Casey, the Titans defense could become the best in the league.

49ers only had 37 sacks last season. DeForest Bucker and Demarcus Lawrence could be a dangerous combination. Now the Eagles are interesting. I don’t believe the Cowboys would trade an elite pass rusher to a team in their division but you never know. The Eagles would only need to get Lawrence if Brandon Gram decides to sign else ware. The Jets make the most sense for Lawrence. They have a ton of cap space and are in need of a stud pass rusher. Adding Lawrence would greatly increase the performance of their overall defense.

What Team Could Draft Kyler Murray?

Embed from Getty Images

With Kyler Murray now fully committed to football, it brings up the question everyone is asking. What team will draft him?. Murray won the Heisman in 2018, playing quarterback at Oklahoma. Now he is only listed as 5-foot-10 but smaller quarterbacks have had success in the NFL. He can run very quick and has a good arm but experience could be a factor.

There are many teams in need of a QB in the upcoming draft. The list of teams that could draft Murray are as follows: Raiders, Dolphins, Bengals, Jaguars and Giants. Broncos would have made the list but they just traded for Joe Flacco. The Raiders are interesting. For them to draft Murray, they would need to trade away Derek Carr. I see them sticking with Carr but I’m not gonna count the Raiders out for drafting him. They have the 4th pick in the draft. The Jaguars are in desperate need of a QB. By drafting Murray they can move on from Blake Bortles. Bortles was very inconsistent last season and I don’t think he’s very good personally. The Jags taking Murray with the 7th pick makes a ton of sense.

If the Dolphins draft Murray, it would give them a reason to move on from Ryan Tannehill. There new offensive coordinator would have fun with a new weapon at QB. The Dolphins have the 13th pick in the draft. The giants are an option for Murray but I believe Haskins is a better fit for them. The Giants have the 6th pick in the draft and they will probably draft Haskins over Murray. Now the last team is the Bengals. It’s kind of the same situation as the Dolphins. If they drafted Murray, they could move on from Andy Dalton. Dalton still has 2 years on his contract. Drafting Murray might speed up the process of getting rid of Dalton. the Bengals have the 11th pick in the draft. These teams have the best chance of drafting Kyler Murray.

Why The Giants Should Draft Dwayne Haskins.

Embed from Getty Images

The Giants need to move on from Eli Manning even if they don’t want too. The team has said that they plan to start Manning for the 2019 season. This means that with the sixth pick in draft the Giants need to draft their next Franchise Quarterback. That QB is going to be Dwayne Haskins.

Haskins has the potential to go top 5 in the draft if the Giants trade up to get him. He is built for the NFL. He’s 6’3″, 220lb’s. Him and Kyler Murray are considered the top 2 QB’s in the draft. Now there are pros and cons for the Giants drafting Haskins. Other teams like the Jags and Dolphins are also good candidates for him. So they might have to trade up and give up some draft picks or players. In his 2018-19 season at Ohio State he threw for 4831 yards and 50 touchdowns. He finished third in the Heisman Voting. I belive he should have come second or even won it with the year he had at Ohio State.

He has an elite arm, mobility in the pocket, can read defenses with his eyes, great accuracy at all three levels and poise in the pocket. Now those are traits you want in a QB. His downsides are experience and a tendency to rush throws while under pressure.Only starting on one year could hurt him in the long run.

With Manning still the QB in 2019, Haskins could sit a year to learn from a veteran quarterback. The chiefs did this with Patrick Mahomes and look how good he did this year. Haskins has openly said we would love to play for the Giants also. For the Giants, picking Haskins is a no brainer.
